Carnival UK

Mental Health First Aid · travel & leisure

Mental health first aid behind Cunard and P&O Cruises.

Carnival UK, a division of the world's largest travel and leisure company, operates Cunard and P&O Cruises. We trained a network of Mental Health First Aiders to support a healthy, high-performing workforce.

Background

The challenge

Carnival UK is committed to the wellbeing of its employees, recognising that a healthy workforce is crucial to maintaining high service standards. To further that commitment, they wanted to equip employees with mental health knowledge and the confidence to use it.

What we did

The approach

We delivered a Mental Health First Aider course to train a group of their employees, giving them a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and effective strategies for supporting colleagues, both one to one and in everyday interactions.

Growth and impact

More confident first aiders, a better atmosphere

After-course feedback shows the training increased first aiders' confidence in addressing mental health issues and improved the company's overall mental health literacy. The atmosphere at Carnival UK has improved, with employees feeling more supported and comfortable discussing mental health concerns, even during busy periods. Participants emphasised the value of ongoing refresher courses, and the company is considering regular supervision and monthly learning sessions to keep skills sharp.

Key results

What changed

In their words

"The training not only helps me one to one, it gives you foundations for dealing with individuals throughout the workday. The skills are useful not just for Mental Health First Aiders but for everyone, creating a supportive environment where people feel confident to seek help."
