Mental Health First Aid · financial services
ORX is the largest operational risk management association in financial services. Over a year, we built mental health knowledge into every layer of the organisation, from managers to frontline staff.
Background
ORX develops a global community of financial institutions committed to improving how operational risk is managed and measured. They wanted mental health support to be consistent across the whole organisation, not just a single course for a few people.
What we did
We trained all managers in Supportive Conversations, so they could hold better, more empathetic and structured conversations earlier. Mental Health Awareness courses went to all other staff for an “all together” approach, followed by a Mental Health First Aid course so qualified first aiders could pick up situations early and signpost when needed. Eleven MHFA courses in total.
Growth and impact
After-course feedback showed employees found the training highly beneficial, gaining a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and practical strategies to address them. Mental health discussions are now a regular part of performance reviews, one-to-ones and check-ins, and the organisation is expanding its first aiders across departments. The atmosphere has improved, with ORX more adept at recognising and addressing the early signs of stress, even during busy periods.
