Mental Health Awareness · creative sector
Bristol Creative Industries supports the creative sector across Bristol. We delivered two tailored Mental Health Awareness courses, one for organisations and one for interns aged 16 to 21.
Background
Bristol Creative Industries is a not-for-profit community interest company established in 2005 to help the creative sector learn, grow and connect. They wanted to support both the organisations hosting placements and the young people on them.
What we did
We took a two-pronged approach. For organisations, we built knowledge of mental health, including how to spot signs of distress and offer help. For the young people, we focused on mental health, stress and management techniques, encouraging proactive self-regulation and giving them tools to take charge of their own wellbeing on placement and beyond.
Growth and impact
Feedback showed the skills gained positively influenced communication in both professional and personal contexts, with participants feeling significantly more confident handling mental health conversations and better able to listen, ask relevant questions and check in. The course materials remain a valuable long-term resource. The young people showed marked improvement in their understanding of mental health and stress management, leaving more capable of managing their own wellbeing during placements and well into the future.
Key results
In their words
"Bianca was amazing, incredibly clear and attentive. She skilfully managed the diverse opinions and experiences shared by the group, keeping us on track while also allowing time for discussions about real-life situations."
