About Our Race Aware Course
2.5 hrs Online or Inhouse – Host Facilitated
Race Aware is a zoom meeting style interactive course which lays down a foundational understanding in a simple to absorb and non-judgemental way. It is a great way for organisations to educate multiple staff within a short time span over 2.5hrs online or in-house (Covid19 willing). The course is host facilitated by a Person of Colour with lived experience which makes it more genuine and authentic in getting the lens of a person who has first handily experienced the issues covered in the course. It’s also full of engaging content, activities, important facts, figures, video, tools and reading materials to support you to become a better ally individually and organisationally.
We explore and highlight the common stressors and mental disorders that are more prevalent to Black and Brown individuals as a direct result of racism. We deep dive into the different forms of racism (listed below) and how it manifests within our society. We’ll cover what it means to be a proactive anti-racism ally and we end with making an anti-racism pledge.
A deep dive into the different forms of Racism
Fully understand and learn to recognise how racism can manifest in many different ways and can be direct or indirect and even subconscious without one realising it.
Explore the systemic racism within institutions and laws and how they effect and exclude Black and Brown people from fair life outcomes.
Explore and learn to recognise common workplace policies that exclude or marginalize Black people and People of Colour.
Highlight the prevalence of microaggressions & gaslighting, its contributing factors and how to recognise and tackle them effectively.
Highlight how different forms of racism directly impact Black and Brown people’s mental health and how individuals can become better allies.
The course finishes by making sure that you have a toolbox of strategies to change your own unconscious biases and of those of the people around you.
On successful completion of the course the user will receive:
- A Helpful Resources Guide
- A Inclusive Language Guide
- An invitation to our Race Ahead Community group to continue learning where we share helpful resources and keep the conversation going about anti-racism and allyship.
Our Race Aware courses are held privately and prices vary so please do email us with your interest.

- 37% of people of colour say they have been bullied, abused or singled out because of their race. Leading to 57% of black women in particular to have suffered a mental health problem due to workplace bullying.
- Black African, Bangladeshi and Pakistan graduates are the least likely group to be offered jobs.

- 47 FTSE 100 companies have no BAME representation on their boards
Maybe these statistics don’t surprise you. Maybe they do. But you’re here, just like us, because we’d like the situation for Black and Brown individuals in society to be equitable.
A non-judgmental approach to learn about racism
Understanding the history of English Race Relations in the United Kingdom will help us better understand the nature of systemic racism and the negative impact it has on Black and Brown individuals. Knowledge gives you the power to make decisions that will positively affect our future. Change can happen at a micro level. Everyone can and should be doing their part.
- But it’s overwhelming
- It’s hard to face
- It’s uncomfortable
- It feels like it’s not relevant to you
- And it’s not without its complexities around a lack of understanding
Educating yourself and others to be actively anti-racism is key to reach the equity everyone deserves. As difficult as it is for people to learn these hard truths mentioned in the course we do ensure psychological safety and time to reflect and digest the information as well assigning support buddies in case anyone is triggered and needs time-out.
How will this benefit me and my organisation?
This is an essential course for individuals who want to demonstrate that they work in an actively anti-racism workplace. But the importance goes beyond that of learning about and improving on your own personal belief systems. Taking part in the Race Ahead course, at an individual level or a business level:
- Reduces discrimination in the workplace
- Reduces employee turnover in Black and Brown members of staff.
- Increases your company reputation and image as an equitable employer.
- Creates a more motivated and productive workforce.
- Allows for enhanced psychological safety for all employees.
- Allows you to retain skills and talent.

We’re so thrilled to see so many joining and completing the Race Ahead course and we’re getting great feedback from our participants. They tell us they feel far better equipped to properly understand the mental health issues that affect Black and Brown people in their own workplaces and advocate for the real change that is needed to eradicate the unintentional racism that often underlies these issues.
I see a lot of organisations providing training on mental health and wellbeing which is fantastic, but not many that specifically address race and diversity and the specific health and wellbeing challenges that minority groups face.
I highly recommend the Race Ahead course which provides a non-judgmental space to learn about race, racism and its effects on mental health. It also covers some history and ways you and your organisation can become pro-active anti-racism allies and champion for change.
The course also explores ways you can better support Black and Brown employees and peers experiencing ill mental health.

I have found the course quite powerful [in helping me understand] how I can best support and be supportive as a colleague or friend.
It’s not good enough any more to be not racist.
I’m now trying to be more proactive on how I raise my own children.
